Ron Gilad / Fragments of Life

Based on what vision/inspiration/concept have you configured/designed the installation “Fragments of Life” for the Ground Floor of Cassina ixc. This is the second time that you have conceived the installation for our store. Please let us know if there are any intentional changes that you have made from your last realization.
"Fragments of life" is an exhibition that concludes my works from 2017-2018 for 3 Italian companies, Danese Milano Cassina and Alias. Although the objects are very diverse and comes from 'different families', what connects them all is my personal approach to how daily objects can contain more than their function. From a conceptual point of view, many questions can be raised: can 3 bars become a container for fruit? Can a mirror have a hole in its center, can a table give up its supportive corner? These are seeds of absurdity I like to plant in the pot of design. Each object hides a story that can be linked to its 'neighbor' invisibly. Therefore, while considering the installation at Cassina ICX space, I decided to not have a whole "set" and to simply place the objects on anonymous white pedestal allowing the viewer to focus on the individual pieces. Compared to my previous installation at the same space, where each "scene" has been injected with Japanese symbols and have been divided into 12 vignettes, I would consider this exhibition more of a presentation of how I think rather installation about how I design.
You have undertaken many projects in different countries. Is there any specific message that you may want to convey with your installation in Japan.
Like its name, "fragments of life" contains many fragments and not just one concept. The exhibition is wide enough to convey a message about how we see and conceived our daily life through the objects we collect and use. Questioning, through these 'fragment', our perception and what are the limits of our "comfort zone".
The New Quarto and Mezzo in your DEADLINE can be assembled and coordinated in various ways and generate a new design. Please let us know under what concept you have designed the said as well as the OVAL series.
Talking specifically about the new additions to "deadline" collection, I would divide the concept in two: the commercial and the conceptual. "Quarto" and "Mezzo" (meaning "quarter" and "half") have been designed to be fragments of a puzzle the can be designed and assembled by the user. Pieces that can compose endless configurations and create a pattern of reflections both in a residential living room or a grand public space. On the other hand, "Oval Dream" and "Oval Void" are two mirrors with a hole in its center, two eccentric pieces that question our obsession about our appearance.

Please let us know if you have any projects and/or designs that are special/precious in your heart.
I would consider most of the pieces for Danese to be dear to my heart due to the fact that they are part of a research about function and perception that its departure point was at the time I was a student and a young designer. A time I was more naive and gutsy when "the industry" was not a particle in the formula of my thinking process and didn't cast a practical and commercial shadow on my vision.
What interests you most in JAPAN?
Japan is still a big enigma to me. I find an energy that I am not able describe in words but still attracts me in to find out more. I'm fascinated by the people and what they create, their approach to life, the contradiction between the absence of visible emotions vs. the ultra emotional objects this culture is producing, the relationships between rigidity and spirituality. I find in Japan new typologies of beauty that are so different yet somehow familiar.
Should you have any highlights and/or focal points within your installation, please let us know. + If you have any message to your Japanese audience, we would highly appreciate it
I can only hope that my approach to design is for an interest to the Japanese audience...
